North Coast Rainforests
The coastal temperate rainforests of
Washington State, British Columbia and Southeast Alaska comprise
the largest and most intact expanse of the Earth's rarest biome.
This rainforest belt once ran from the San Francisco bay to Alaska,
but now exists only in rare pockets south of the Northwest.
We fund initiatives ~ short or long-term ~ that secure the wild and natural character of these forests and associated wetlands and coastlines .
Our priorities here are:
-
Blocking transport of oil, gas and coal through the region and related coastal zone protection
-
Blocking new roads into or through the region
-
Species-specific conservation efforts
-
Restoration of native forests
.
-
Stopping any primary forest logging
-
Efforts to transition to a light footprint, sustainable second-growth industry
-
Designation of new permanent protections; this includes Wild & Scenic River designation
We fund within the rough boundaries of the map below.
We make exceptions where opportunities are found to conserve the right parcels of land.
